EFTC – Module A – 2026 Jan [Online] by Dr. Catalina Woldarsky Meneses

13 January 2026 - 30 January 2026

Introduction

“When two people connect, it is like the meeting of two chemicals: All kinds of reactions occur” (Greenberg, 2015, p. 284). Partners in an intimate relationship seek out feelings that make them feel good.  Avoid ones that make them feel bad. These feelings or emotions can affect our goals, including approaching, withdrawing, connecting, or running away from each other.

What is Emotion-Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT-C)

Emotion-Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT-C) is an empirically validated approach that views “affect” as the central force in organizing a couple’s interactions. Affect regulation in intimate couple relationships means that both strive for pleasant emotions and avoid unwanted emotions. Thus, affect regulation is a key concept that helps to understand and change couple interactions. EFT-C has two main objectives: 1) Partners learn to make their vulnerabilities and painful emotions accessible, to communicate appropriately and to respond to the other in a validating way. 2) Partners learn to better regulate their painful and maladaptive emotions caused by early childhood injuries.

This is an online workshop. There will be lectures followed by videos to illustrate the concepts. The other learning activity is to apply the principles and techniques of EFT-C. This is done in small group skills practices under supervision.

This Workshop is Certified.
