As helping professionals, we are in the business of change!
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is about changing emotion with emotion. We help clients transform painful debilitating and distressing emotions into one that is adaptive. EFT is an empirically-supported treatment modality that holds emotions as centrally important in human functioning. It involves a therapeutic stance that combines person-centered “following” and neo-humanistic “guiding”, in the client’s experiential process. It views emotion as the fundamental datum of human experience. EFT recognizes the importance of meaning making, and views emotion and cognition as inextricably intertwined.
This 3-day training provides a basic understanding of the theoretical foundations of EFT. It introduces key EFT interventions. Learners would be able to appreciate the inner workings of these interventions.
Duration and Time: 3-day, 9am – 5pm
This is the first of three Modules of EFT workshops. It offers a grand overview of this therapeutic approach that integrates Person-centered Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, and Experiential Therapy. It provides an understanding of EFT Emotion Theory, and the role of Emotions in human function and dysfunction.
The hallmark of EFT, in addition to providing an empathic relationship, is that the therapist guides clients’ emotional processing in an active manner. EFT therapists would identify certain client in-session states, called “Markers”. These Markers point to underlying affective/cognitive processing problems. Various different interventions will be introduced based on what is best suited for each problem state.
Interventions, commonly referred to as “EFT Tasks”, will be covered. Examples of these Tasks include painful self-criticism (referred to as “splits’) and emotional injuries from past relationships (referred to as “unfinished business”).
Participants will be trained in moment-by-moment attunement to emotion, and the use of methods for dialoguing with aspects of configurations of self and imagined significant others in an empty chair.
Caper Institute is the only training provider in Singapore appointed by the International Society of Emotion Focused Therapy (ISEFT) to conduct certification training for Emotion-Focused Therapy. You may visit ISEFT’s website here: https://www.iseft.org/. This three-day workshop fulfils part of the requirements for certification.
