“Every cloud has a silver lining and a rainbow.”

Wan Junmei

Senior Counsellor

Therapy Philosophy

Junmei believes in working with clients collaboratively. Junmei views clients as experts of their own experiences and the therapist as an expert of the therapy process. Through this process, she places trust in the agency and growth tendency within them. She believes that even in the depth of our pain, there is strength and resilience. Most importantly, there is within each of us an unrelenting yearning for meaning and love.

Professional Education & Credentials

Junmei received her Doctor of Psychotherapy degree from the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. She is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and the Singapore Association of Counseling (SAC). She provides clinical supervision for counsellors  and counselling students. She has experience working in the following areas; depression, social anxiety, low self-esteem, transitions/cultural adaptation, grief and loss, self-harm, addiction, trauma, and relational issues.

Junmei has extensive training in the person-centred approach with a psychodynamic perspective. She is a certified Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) Therapist, and is also trained in Emotionally-Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT), Gottman Couple Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Multi-channel Eye Movement Integration (MEMI) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Junmei began learning counselling 20 years ago. In 2012, she established a counselling service for foreign students at a university in China. There she provided mental health education, administered mental health screening, and conducted group therapy and individual counselling supporting them in their adaptation in a new culture. Over the years, she has shown her passion for helping the community by conducting emotional self-development group work for individuals, couples, and parents in schools and churches. She has also conducted numerous public mental health talks, seminars, and workshops. She used to work as a social worker and a be-friender in various settings, including a hospice and a community hospital.

Before becoming a counsellor, Junmei used to be a research scientist in the aerospace industry, where she designed aircraft and spacecraft in order to explore outer space. Currently, she is a researcher in psychotherapy and counselling, exploring the inner human space. Her research interest lies in understanding the effects and changing mechanisms of innovative therapeutic approaches. She publishes journal papers and presents her research at international conferences.

The Person behind the Practice

Junmei discovered she was a trauma survivor during her counselling studies. She followed an inner voice not only to help others but also to help her little inner child who was blocked from her painful memories. In her recovery process, she encountered her deepest pains. These encounters were most fearful yet fulfilling, as she connected not just with the girl inside but found a good Parent. From these, Junmei reclaimed her childhood hobbies such as dancing, calligraphy and developed new hobbies such as badminton. She experiments with elements of her life for therapeutic application, through personal documentary video production and dancing.
