SUMMARY:EFTC - Module A - 2026 Jan [Online] by Dr. Catalina Woldarsky Meneses
DESCRIPTION:Introduction \n“When two people connect\, it is like the meeting of two chemicals: All kinds of reactions occur” (Greenberg\, 2015\, p. 284). Partners in an intimate relationship seek out feelings that make them feel good.  Avoid ones that make them feel bad. These feelings or emotions can affect our goals\, including approaching\, withdrawing\, connecting\, or running away from each other. \n  \nWhat is Emotion-Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT-C) \nEmotion-Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT-C) is an empirically validated approach that views “affect” as the central force in organizing a couple’s interactions. Affect regulation in intimate couple relationships means that both strive for pleasant emotions and avoid unwanted emotions. Thus\, affect regulation is a key concept that helps to understand and change couple interactions. EFT-C has two main objectives: 1) Partners learn to make their vulnerabilities and painful emotions accessible\, to communicate appropriately and to respond to the other in a validating way. 2) Partners learn to better regulate their painful and maladaptive emotions caused by early childhood injuries.  \nThis is an online workshop. There will be lectures followed by videos to illustrate the concepts. The other learning activity is to apply the principles and techniques of EFT-C. This is done in small group skills practices under supervision. \nThis Workshop is Certified. \n  \nContent \nThe following topics will be covered: \n\nIntroduction to Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples\nEmotion theory \nThree motivation systems (attachment\, identity and attraction) \nRecognizing and working with emotions that are relevant to attachment and identity\nInteractional Circle\nThe 5 phases of EFT-C\nEmpathic attunement and deepening emotions\n\n  \nAbout the Trainer \nDr. Catalina Woldarsky Meneses completed her doctorate degree in clinical psychology at York University under the direction of Dr. Leslie Greenberg. She has extensive training in Emotion-focused therapy (EFT) for individuals and couples. Her research has been focused to understanding how forgiveness unfolds in couples\, and she co-authored a book on this topic in 2019 with APA. Dr. Woldarsky Meneses is involved in training and supervising therapists learning EFT internationally. Originally from Chile\, she is based in Switzerland and works in private practice\, while also teaching in the graduate counseling program at Webster University and dedicating time to her family and yoga practice. \n \n  \nDates and Times for Workshop:  \nThe workshop will be conducted in two blocks\, from 13 – 16 Jan and 26 to 30 Jan. SUMMARY:On Becoming Emotion-Focused: Book Talk with Prof. Leslie Greenberg
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening with Prof. Leslie Greenberg\, Founder of EFT as he introduces his newest book: “Becoming Emotion-Focused.” \nWe will also be launching Caper Institute’s Membership Community during this Webinar! \nAbout the Speaker  \nLeslie Greenberg\, Ph.D. is Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus of Psychology at York University in Toronto\, Ontario. He is the main developer of Emotion-Focused Therapy and the board advisory member of International Society for Emotion Focused Therapy\, ISEFT. He was the Director of the York University Psychotherapy Research Clinic where he conducted many studies on EFT and trained many EFT  therapists. He has authored the major texts on Emotion-focused approaches to treatment\, and is the senior author on the original texts on Emotion-focused approaches to treatment of individuals and couples. \n \nDate: Thursday\, 29 January 2026 \nTime: 10:00 – 11:00 PM (SGT) |  3:00 – 4:00 PM (ECT) \nRegister here! \n  \nBook Synopsis: \n“On Becoming Emotion Focused” is a reflective\, semi-autobiographical book where Leslie Greenberg traces how his life\, training\, and research converged into the development of Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and an “emotion-focused” therapeutic stance.[1][2][3] It explores whether the capacity for emotion-focused attunement is innate or can be deliberately cultivated\, using his own history as a case study in how therapists learn to work deeply and skillfully with emotion.[2][3] \nCore focus of the book \nGreenberg describes becoming emotion focused as both a scientific–theoretical project and a personal journey\, showing how key life experiences\, mentors\, and clinical moments shaped the principles of EFT.[2][3] He highlights how his emerging view of emotion as primary in human functioning led to specific therapeutic practices aimed at helping clients access\, tolerate\, and transform painful emotions rather than simply regulate or suppress them.[4] \nStructure and themes \nThe book interweaves chapters explaining the foundations of EFT with chapters about Greenberg’s own life\, making visible the “threads” that informed the model’s evolution.[2][5] Themes include the role of implicit and explicit learning in therapist development\, the centrality of the therapeutic relationship\, and the idea that one “has to feel a feeling in order to change it.”[2][4] \nTakeaways for therapists \nFor practitioners\, the book functions as a kind of developmental guide\, suggesting that emotion-focused skills grow from personal emotional work\, experiential training\, and close attention to moment-to-moment process in sessions.[6][2][4] It encourages therapists to see their own biography and emotional development as inseparable from their clinical style\, and to cultivate presence\, empathy\, and comfort with intense affect as the ground of EFT technique.[2][4] \n  \nCitations:\n[1] On Becoming Emotion Focused by Leslie S.
